One Pocket Billiard

Background & Rules

One Pocket is one of the most challenging and exciting variations of billiards. The game rules are similar to the rules of pocket billiard games such as straight pool, 8-ball, etc. However, One Pocket is much more sophisticated and requires lots more skill, tons of patience, and a smart strategy that relies more on defense and less on offence.

One Pocket may not be the ideal game for pool beginners, therefore you might consider practicing your shooting skill if it is your first experience around a pool table, but if you have some experience shooting pool and you are looking to increase the level of action, check out this One Pocket tutorial.

You can read here about the unique rule of the One Pocket pool game. Besides the rules listed below, One Pocket game runs exactly like an ordinary pool game. The game is played on a standardized pool table with two players.

Object of One Pocket Billiard Game

Each of the players aims to score the biggest number of balls into a corner pocket. The winner is the player who had scored a total of eight balls to the legal pocket before his opponent.

One Pocket Billiard - The Rules

Before the play begins, the starting player has to choose a corner pocket on the foot end of the table. The chosen pocket will be his target pocket for the rest of the game while his opponent would target the object balls towards the pocket on the other foot corner of the table.

The play begins with the starting player, who is required to pocket an object ball into his target pocket or at least make the cue ball to move an object ball or more towards a cushion. If the player fails in completing these requirements, it is a foul.

If the player has pocketed a ball legally, according to the requirements mentioned above, he may continue shooting and trying to pocket the rest of the object balls until he fails in completing a legal shot.

Note that in One Pocket, if you pocket object balls into the four remaining pockets, these balls are considered illegally pocketed balls and spotted. If you pocket a ball into your opponent target pocket, the ball will be added to your opponent's score.
